Laura Gherasim (AUR), chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee for the Investigation of Abuse, Corruption and Petitions, claims that the scandal involving the names of George Simion and businessman Fănel Bogos is aimed at discrediting the Commission and state institutions.
The statements were made amid the emergence of alleged transcripts, which have been challenged by the AUR leader. Gherasim says that Simion never asked her to favor anyone, break the law or use the committee’s powers for private interests.
The lawmaker says she is not familiar with Fănel Bogos’s situation and will check whether any petition has been registered and what procedure it followed. According to her, there is currently no complaint filed against the businessman.
Gherasim questions the timing of the alleged transcripts’ release, two days after George Simion announced that he would present, on October 13, in Parliament, a report on the annulment of the 2024 presidential election. She believes this sequence could be part of a broader effort to undermine confidence in institutions.
Simion, for his part, said that he had not met Bogos and that he had only instructed an intermediary to notify the committee if he was reporting an abuse. Gherasim calls for any falsifications, illegal disclosure of information and deliberate dissemination of false information to be punished under the law.
