AUR President George Simion accused PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu on Tuesday evening of appearing repeatedly in the documents and transcripts of a corruption case involving Cristian Anton, his former chief of staff and current head of the Romanian Road Authority (ARR).
Speaking on TVR, Simion claimed that lawyers had reviewed the case file and that the documents contained numerous references to Grindeanu’s name. The statements constitute political allegations and, as presented, have not been confirmed by a court ruling.
Cristian Anton was detained in April in a DNA investigation into the fraudulent issuance of certificates for the transport of people and goods. According to prosecutors, candidates allegedly paid between 600 and 1,500 euros to obtain the documents without taking the exam or to receive the questions and answers before the test.
Following the searches, investigators allegedly found nearly 500,000 euros at Anton’s home, with the money hidden in shoeboxes, furniture, cupboards, and the basement. The investigation began in Cluj after a complaint, and undercover officers allegedly documented the scheme and the role of the intermediaries.
