PSD President Sorin Grindeanu responded on Wednesday to AUR leader George Simion after Simion claimed in an interview given to TVR that Grindeanu’s name appears in the file of the Romanian Road Authority (ARR). Grindeanu rejected the accusation and mocked Simion’s statements.
“Regarding Simion’s statement mentioning Grindeanu in the transcripts from the case involving the head of ARR: I have not seen statements crossed out with a marker at the prosecutors’ office; that is only valid in movies about Russian spies. Movies that Simion watches,” the PSD leader said.
George Simion claimed on Tuesday evening that the name “Sorin Grindeanu” appears in the documents of the case in which Cristian Anton, the former chief of staff of the PSD leader and current head of the Road Authority, is being investigated. Simion said the information came from lawyers who had studied the case and claimed that some pages had been partially blacked out.
Cristian Anton was indicted by DNA prosecutors in August. He is accused of having coordinated a group that collected tens of thousands of euros from people interested in fraudulently obtaining professional training certificates. In his home, investigators found 500,000 euros in cash. According to transcripts obtained by journalists, Anton was being monitored while counting his money. So far, Simion’s accusations against Grindeanu have not been accompanied by the public presentation of evidence indicating his involvement in the case.
