Sorin Grindeanu says Georgescu must prove his innocence in the case opened by DIICOT

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu said Monday that former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu must prove his innocence in the new case opened by DIICOT. He made the statement at the party’s central headquarters, as Georgescu was stopped in traffic and taken to his home in Mogoșoaia, where investigators conducted searches.

Grindeanu said he would not comment on the decisions of the judiciary and stated that, in his view, Georgescu is “facing problems” at this time. The PSD leader said investigators must substantiate the accusations, while the former candidate must prove his innocence, with the situation to be clarified through judicial proceedings.

Călin Georgescu was stopped Monday while heading to a swimming pool. He was taken to his home in Mogoșoaia to attend the searches, in a fraud case being handled by DIICOT. The action comes after the former candidate conducted a nationwide tour and met with supporters. Until the investigation is completed, the accusations do not establish his guilt.
