The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, requested on Tuesday evening the withdrawal of Oana Gheorghiu's nomination for the position of deputy prime minister, arguing that this step could compromise the relationship with the United States of America and could lead to a diplomatic disaster. Grindeanu emphasized that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan should take into account the PSD's opinion on this matter, considering Gheorghiu's previous controversial statements, in which she referred to American officials as "two thugs".
"In a government already filled with anti-American voices and criticism of the Trump Administration, how does such a nomination help and legitimize Romania's efforts on important issues in relation to our transatlantic ally? I remind you of the Visa Waiver, a step so eagerly awaited by all Romanians! Therefore, I believe that such an institutional move by the Prime Minister needs to be urgently reconsidered," Sorin Grindeanu conveyed in a message on Facebook.
