The criticisms from Sorin Grindeanu, who called for the withdrawal of the proposal due to some comments made by Gheorghiu about the US administration, were dismissed by Ciucu. He emphasized the significant contributions of Oana Gheorghiu, including the construction of a hospital for children suffering from cancer funded by private donations.
Ciucu compared the situation to that of JD Vance, who criticized Trump before becoming vice president, and accused Grindeanu's attacks of "servility." He warned that increasing corruption poses a greater risk to Romania's international relations than the personal opinions expressed by Gheorghiu. Grindeanu insisted that her appointment could compromise relations with the US and called for a re-evaluation of the proposal. Oana Gheorghiu responded that her opinions do not represent the position of the Romanian state, but reflect the right to free expression.
