PSD President Sorin Grindeanu announced that he intends to file a complaint against USR leader Dominic Fritz after Fritz allegedly accused him of receiving a bribe from Americans. Grindeanu argues that the statement goes beyond the limits of political dispute and could affect the strategic partnership between Romania and the United States.
The Social Democratic leader said he would consult with lawyers to decide on the legal steps. He rejected the allegations amid the controversy surrounding his meeting with the US ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and denied that the discussions concerned the conclusion of gas contracts.
On the same day, the PSD National Political Council decided that the party’s parliamentarians would not support the government proposed by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan. Grindeanu said the decision was firm and that the PSD would not cast any of its parliamentarians’ 127 votes.
Mureșan said he was open to dialogue and would try to meet again with the PSD leader before the investiture vote scheduled for Wednesday. The designated prime minister says he has approximately 200 confirmed votes but needs 33 more to secure the required majority of 233. The PSD and AUR have announced that they will not support the Cabinet.
