Sorin Grindeanu, message for Ilie Bolojan: “Withdraw it, because it won’t pass”

Sorin Grindeanu allegedly told Ilie Bolojan, at the Wednesday meeting, September 23, that the nomination of Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister cannot secure a majority in Parliament. “Withdraw him, he won’t get through,” the PSD leader allegedly told his liberal counterpart, according to sources cited by Știripesurse.ro.

The message is in line with the decision of the PSD National Permanent Bureau on September 21, which recommended rejecting the Mureșan Cabinet, described by the Social Democrats as “the Bolojan Government 2.0.” The decision is to be analyzed by the party’s National Political Council.

Despite the PSD’s opposition, Bolojan and Grindeanu allegedly agreed on the investiture schedule. The ministers’ hearings are scheduled for Monday, September 28, while the vote in the joint plenary session of Parliament is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29. Mureșan has not announced that he is giving up the mandate and supports a pro-European program focused on reforms, without increases in taxes or duties.

PNL, USR, and UDMR together have 169 votes, insufficient without the support of the PSD or other parliamentarians. If the Government is rejected, the president may designate a new prime minister. Snap elections are not triggered automatically: for Parliament to be dissolved, at least two investiture requests must be rejected within 60 days.
