Dominic Fritz responded in German on Tuesday to Alice Weidel, the AfD candidate for federal chancellor, after she accused Romanian migrants of “plundering the German social welfare system.”
The USR leader said that hundreds of thousands of Romanians live in Germany, working and contributing to the social security fund. He said his message was also addressed to AUR representatives, whom he accused of admiring AfD politicians.
“I will not remain silent, because my love for Romania and Europe is genuine,” Dominic Fritz wrote on social media. He urged Romanians in Germany to share the video in which he responds to Weidel.
The reaction comes after a post published by Alice Weidel on the X platform. She claimed that more and more migrants from Romania are receiving child benefits, social assistance and medical services, stating that in Magdeburg alone, costs had reached three million euros annually—20 times more.
The Romanian community in Germany is unofficially estimated at approximately 900,000 people. Most Romanians work in industry, agriculture and services.
