Dominic Fritz has officially left the position of mayor of Timișoara, following the definitive loss of the lawsuit against the National Integrity Agency and the entry into force of provisions terminating the mandates of elected officials subject to a final ban for a conflict of interest. The interim position will be held by Deputy Mayor Ruben Lațcău (USR).
Dominic Fritz was elected mayor in 2020, with 49,191 votes, and re-elected in 2024, with 51,910 votes. In 2023, ANI declared him to be in an administrative conflict of interest, claiming that he had approved the amendment of a PUZ for a beneficiary whose documentation had been prepared by the firm of a local councillor who had lent him 25,000 lei during the election campaign.
On June 18, 2026, Fritz definitively lost the lawsuit against ANI and announced that he would challenge the decision at the ECHR. Subsequently, the prefect of Timiș ordered a 10% salary reduction for six months. On August 28, President Nicușor Dan promulgated the law that led to the termination of his mandate.
