PSD First Vice-President Bogdan Ivan said Monday evening on TVR that Social Democratic leaders become the targets of direct and coordinated attacks on social media when they express opinions differing from those of former prime minister and dismissed prime minister Ilie Bolojan or the USR.
Ivan claims that these attacks are generated by bots, trolls and fake accounts and that they generally intensify during the night. He described the phenomenon as part of a possible “hybrid war” affecting Romania, without presenting evidence regarding the authors of the online campaigns.
The PSD leader said he is not afraid of attacks from fake accounts, believing that people can distinguish between real information and attempts at manipulation. He added that many Romanians are asking the Social Democrats to help unblock the political situation.
Bogdan Ivan argued that Romania is facing a deadlock because of “one man’s stubbornness” and said that the PSD made a mistake when it accepted certain economic measures promoted by the government led by Ilie Bolojan. The statements come amid political tensions between the PSD, Bolojan and the USR, their former governing partners.
