PNL lawmaker Alexandru Muraru accuses the PSD of seeking to remove Ilie Bolojan from the party’s leadership, change the liberals’ direction and bring them under its control ahead of the 2028 elections. On Monday, Muraru presented his own interpretation of recent political developments in a Facebook post.
According to the lawmaker, the Social Democrats’ plan would unfold in five phases: sabotaging the Government’s projects in Parliament, issuing an ultimatum to the prime minister, bringing down the Executive through a no-confidence motion, activating the faction within the PNL that favors closer ties with the PSD, and blocking the formation of a new government.
Muraru claims that the PSD left the coalition on April 23, following an internal referendum and a three-day ultimatum addressed to Bolojan. On May 5, the Government was allegedly ousted through a motion supported by 281 lawmakers, including with the backing of the AUR.
The liberal says the strategy was thwarted by the PNL’s decisions. At the June Congress, Bolojan received 1,769 of the 1,842 votes cast, while the party rejected a new coalition with the PSD. Muraru says the liberals have not changed their position and warns that what is at stake is preserving a political alternative to the PSD in 2028.
