Former president Traian Băsescu discussed the challenges faced by Nicușor Dan in appointing the heads of SRI and SIE, emphasizing the importance of finding people of character. Băsescu mentioned that during his term, he appointed a PSD representative, George Maior, to lead SRI without being pressured by anyone. He explained that, unlike him, Nicușor Dan does not have a party to support him, which makes negotiations more difficult. Băsescu emphasized that Dan should fight for his constitutional rights in the appointment of prosecutors, considering the decisions of the Constitutional Court. The position of civil director of SRI has been vacant since July 2023, and SIE is led by Gabriel Vlase, a former PSD deputy.
