AUR will attend the consultations at Cotroceni Palace scheduled for October 5 to nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister, Dan Dungaciu announced. The party is scheduled to meet with President Nicușor Dan at 2:30 p.m.
AUR’s first deputy chairman said the party is attending the consultations to convey a message to the president, whom it accuses of “splitting Romania in two” through the way he conducts political discussions. According to Dungaciu, the Cotroceni Palace is consulting only parties considered acceptable and is excluding AUR from negotiations on the future government.
The sociologist argued that this exclusion has a geopolitical dimension and that the decision was made in Brussels, without presenting evidence for this claim. He also said there had been no official negotiations between AUR and PSD.
Dungaciu says that PSD has neither the freedom nor the permission to hold formal discussions with AUR and that all parties in the former coalition have accepted the established political configuration. He also said he is not convinced that Sorin Grindeanu will be given the mandate to form the government.
