AUR has requested clarifications from the Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, and the leadership of the National Authority for Citizenship (ANC) regarding the rapid acquisition of Romanian citizenship by the mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, who achieved this in one year, in contrast to the average duration of over two years for ordinary citizens. AUR deputy, Mihai-Bogdan Negoescu, has submitted official questions to understand whether Fritz benefited from prioritization or exemptions in his process.
AUR emphasizes that this situation raises questions related to transparency and the uniform application of the law, considering that many applicants are waiting long periods for their cases to be resolved. Negoescu requested details about the administrative steps taken by Fritz and any political influences on the ANC's decisions, given his political role. He also asked for an assessment of the risks of conflict of interest in the context of the strategic decisions of the Romanian state. Dominic Fritz recently announced that he has passed the citizenship interview and is set to take the oath, but did not specify the exact date.
