The designated Prime Minister Adrian Veștea expressed his dissatisfaction on Friday regarding the decision of the PNL leadership to convene an Extraordinary Congress on June 21, considering that the rapid organization of the meeting limits internal debate and risks affecting liberal values.
In a message on Facebook, Veștea emphasized that the proposal to organize the congress instead of a broader meeting is contrary to the principles of liberalism. He argued that the party should allow for internal competition and an open debate before electing the new leadership. Veștea identified the concentration of power around Ilie Bolojan as a goal of this decision, as well as blocking the investment of the Government he was tasked to form. He also mentioned that the amendments to the party's statute pursue personal interests, not broader political objectives.
Veștea highlighted the importance of an honest political partnership with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, warning about the risks of tensions between the party leadership and the head of state. He concluded that he will fight to bring freedom back to the center of PNL's values.
