The test of our generation

We live in truly exceptional times in which not only the destiny of a generation is at stake, but also the extent to which Romania remains in the free and civilized world or returns, after almost 4 decades, under the umbrella of oppression and post-Soviet poverty. It's not a figure of speech, it's pure and harsh reality.
The country has been brutally attacked as part of a long-running information war waged by Russia against the West, Romania implicitly (for over 10 years, with increased intensity since the pandemic), and a large part of the population has shown no resilience whatsoever in the face of gross manipulation.
At the same time, the country's political class has antagonized a large part of the population for failing to distribute fairly the wealth accumulated after Euro-Atlantic accession and believing that it could artificially entrench itself in positions of power. This amplified public distrust, providing additional fuel for Russia's information aggression.
Further ahead, on May 4 and May 18, the choice belongs to Romanians. It is the test of our generation. The Romanian state has not acted ideally in recent years, it has been far from ideal, but it seems that in the twelfth hour it is mobilizing. Yesterday was a complicated day in which Romania ensured that it limited the contextual hostility of some of the power vectors of our strategic partner through a difficult decision, morally attackable, but imposed by the exceptionally complicated times in which we live. And I am not referring to the criminal proceedings against Călin Georgescu and his supporters. Here things are already clear, and the first data/information/disclosures are mind-boggling.
At the end of this adventure, however, the power to decide our destiny, this time in full knowledge of the facts, will belong to us, all Romanians. And the consequences will be swift, for us, our children and future generations.
The world may be changing, we may sometimes be against the tide, but we cannot enter alone into the mass graves of history, haunted by the souls of those sacrificed by extreme ideologies, without risking losing ourselves altogether. Alea iacta est.

Mircea Geoană: "At the moment when the world is changing, arrangements are being renegotiated. Each nation begins to play the power game. We thought we were in the year 2000, but we are in the 21st century, when everything is being renegotiated."
