The absurd invocation of the US and EU in the internal political war

What nonsense, to turn small internal political disputes into geopolitical fault lines in which some are with the EU while others are with the US. I think there’s a party with fiddlers in Moscow.

How are we supposed to choose between the EU and the US? Well, first of all, we are the European Union. We cannot choose whether or not to be the EU. According to the Constitution, according to the treaties, according to our demographics, including the diaspora, we are the EU, with our larger or smaller share. We cannot choose to be pro- or anti-EU, since we are not masochists. It is true that some have chosen between being Romanian or anti-Romanian when they glorify aggressors and dictatorships that bring war and poverty, but even so, here we are talking about exceptions.

On the other hand, the relationship with the US nevertheless means a security guarantee that no one else can provide at this moment. In other words, something precious that gives us the luxury of living in peace, of being both a sovereign Romania and a European Romania, with rights, freedoms, and democracy untainted by autocratic regimes.

Most Romanians are much wiser than many political leaders and self-important opinion-makers when they say that both the EU and the US are equally important to us. If you want to be true patriots, mature statesmen appreciated by the citizens of this country, or responsible analysts/commentators, step out of this artificial polarization, which could prove catastrophic for Romania and an immense victory for Russia.
