Meta Platforms' proposal to use fewer personal data in the new 'pay or consent' model, which will come into effect next month, has received approval from European competition authorities. This means that Meta will no longer be exposed to daily fines in the context of an EU campaign to restrict Big Tech. The company was fined 200 million euros for violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and negotiated with the European Commission to modify the advertising model to use less personal data. The changes include clear options for users: consent for fully personalized advertising or the collection of reduced data for less personalized ads. The Commission will monitor the implementation of this model and collect feedback, eliminating the risk of periodic fines.
