The Daniel K. Inouye telescope, located on the island of Maui, has been equipped with a new instrument, the Visible Tunable Filtergraph (VTF), which will help study the solar atmosphere and magnetic fields. VTF, the telescope's 5th instrument, allows detailed images of the solar photosphere and chromosphere. Although still in the calibration phase, it has been able to capture images with extreme precision, with each pixel representing an area of just 10 square km. The VTF's interferometers dissect sunlight, generating hundreds of images per second that are essential for analyzing the interactions between solar plasma and magnetic fields.
