Astronauts Anil Menon and Joshua Kutryk installed the seventh deployable IROSA solar array on the International Space Station during a spacewalk that lasted 7 hours and 11 minutes. The array was connected to power channel 2A and will provide additional energy for the station’s essential operations, including its controlled and safe decommissioning.

The two astronauts also carried out preparatory work for the next spacewalk, scheduled for Thursday, November 5. They will install the eighth and final IROSA array on power channel 3B. NASA will broadcast the operation live, beginning at 6:45 a.m. EDT.

Once installation is complete, the eight arrays will increase the power available aboard the station by up to 30%. The station’s power-generation capacity will rise from 160 to approximately 215 kilowatts. For Menon, this was his fourth spacewalk, while for Kutryk, it was his first. The operation was also the 100th spacewalk carried out by American astronauts and the 285th dedicated to the assembly, maintenance, and modernization of the ISS.
