Google has decided to sign up to the European Union's code of best practice for artificial intelligence, offering significant support for the EU bloc's digital regulations. Kent Walker, Alphabet's chief legal officer, emphasized the importance of the code in ensuring safe AI tools, but expressed concerns that the regulations could slow down the development of AI in Europe. Google joins other companies such as OpenAI in signing the code, while Meta refuses to participate, citing legal uncertainties. The EU's AI law, considered the strictest in the world, will come into force next month.
