The European Commission has published the final Code of Good Practice for labeling AI-generated content, which will be applicable from August 2, 2026.

The European Commission has announced the completion of the Code of Good Practices regarding the marking and labeling of content generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI), a voluntary document that establishes measures for providers and operators of generative AI systems.

This code will come into effect with the AI Regulation on August 2, 2026, requiring clear labeling of deepfakes and AI-generated texts, especially in cases of public interest. Users will be informed when interacting with interactive AI systems, such as chatbots, to reduce the risks of deception.

The code was developed by independent experts, with contributions from over 180 stakeholders, including providers, operators, and organizations from various sectors. It includes obligations for providers to label AI-generated materials and for operators to inform the public about manipulated content.

The code is open for signatures, and the Commission will provide additional guidance to support compliance with legal regulations.
