Leaders of major American artificial intelligence companies adopted a voluntary code of conduct at the White House on Tuesday concerning the control of risks associated with AI development. The initiative, backed by President Donald Trump, seeks to address growing concerns without imposing mandatory regulations for the time being.
The agreement provides for four levels of oversight: internal checks on model behavior in areas such as cybersecurity and chemical threats, specialized teams, external assessments, and independent committees at the leadership level. The companies also undertake to meet regularly to establish common standards.
Elon Musk, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jensen Huang attended the meeting. The director of Anthropic warned that the technology involves real risks, while Trump called for rapid development, citing competition with China. On the same day, the president formalized the use of the term “Superintelligence” by his administration, a measure criticized by Senator Mark Warner.
The agreement comes after security incidents and warnings about losing control over AI systems. According to a CNN poll, 82% of Americans are concerned about the pace of development in the field.
