Starting Sunday, August 2, the European Union enters a new phase of regulating artificial intelligence through the application of the European regulation dedicated to this field, adopted in 2024. This regulation establishes a common framework for the safe use of AI systems, emphasizing the protection of fundamental rights.

Sanctions for non-compliance with the rules are severe, with fines of up to 35 million euros for the use of prohibited systems and up to 15 million euros for violations related to high-risk systems. Among the prohibited systems are those that manipulate emotions, exploit vulnerabilities, or classify people based on discriminatory criteria.

Additionally, users must be informed when interacting with AI, and labeling of AI-generated content will be mandatory starting in December. The European Commission has postponed the implementation of strict requirements for high-risk systems until December 2027. Experts emphasize the importance of regulation, but also the need not to hinder innovation in the field.
