Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is prepared to halt attacks on Russian refineries if Russia immediately stops strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The statement was made on the X platform after Donald Trump called on Kyiv to abandon attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy claimed that attacks on energy targets could cease as early as the same day, but Vladimir Putin does not want this. The leader in Kyiv emphasized that any de-escalation measure must be reciprocal and accompanied by real guarantees.
The dispute comes after Trump accused Zelenskyy of contributing to rising diesel prices in the United States and suggested that Ukraine should choose a new president capable of concluding a peace agreement.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha rejected the criticism and stated that Zelenskyy enjoys the support of the population, while Ukraine’s leader can be elected only by the citizens of this country.
Tensions increased after the agreement announced by Trump with Putin regarding the purchase of diesel from Russia. Ukrainian and European officials criticized the understanding, warning that Moscow’s revenues could finance the war.
