According to the report from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis), women earned 16% less than men in 2024, with an average salary of 22.81 euros per hour, which is 4.24 euros less than their male counterparts. Although the pay gap has decreased by 2 percentage points compared to the previous year, it remains constant compared to 2006, when it was 23%. Almost two-thirds of this gap is attributed to part-time employment and lower wages in predominantly female occupations.

The adjusted pay gap is 1.71 euros, which represents 6% of the gross hourly wage, without a clear explanation. Even in comparable working conditions, women earn 6% less than men. Additionally, the pay gap is significantly smaller in eastern Germany (5%) compared to the west (17%). In the public sector, the gap is only 4%, and if included, the national gap would decrease to 15%.
