Gisella Cardia, a woman from near Rome, has been sent to trial for fraud after claiming that a statue of the Virgin Mary was crying tears of blood, attracting hundreds of pilgrims. Cardia, along with her husband, Gianni, is accused of staging a false apparition and making alarmist sermons to raise donations, generating approximately 365,000 euros. Prosecutors began an investigation after a detective claimed that the blood on the statue came from a pig. The Catholic Church has declared her a fraud, reinforcing the rules regarding supernatural phenomena. Cardia's lawyer claims that she wishes to reveal the truth in court. The trial will take place in April 2026.
