A 57-year-old Italian man was caught after keeping his deceased mother's body in his home for three years, continuing to collect her pension. He disguised himself as his mother, using makeup and women's clothing, managing to deceive several people.

The deception was discovered when he tried to obtain a new identity document in his mother's name, and officials noticed the differences between the photographs. The mayor of Borgo Virgilio sent the police to the man's home, where they found the mummified body of the woman. During this time, the man illegally collected approximately 53,000 euros a year from his mother's pension and benefits. He is now being investigated for fraud, identity theft, and desecration of a corpse, and the case has been referred to prosecutors for further investigation.
