Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, has urged Hungary to quickly implement reforms, emphasizing their importance for unlocking frozen EU funds worth billions of euros.
She warned that Budapest risks losing 6.5 billion euros from post-pandemic recovery funds if it does not meet the conditions by the end of August. During an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the publication Die Zeit, Ursula von der Leyen mentioned that she sent a team of officials from Brussels to collaborate with the new opposition leader, Peter Magyar, to implement the necessary reforms.
European funds have been frozen due to issues related to the rule of law in Hungary, and von der Leyen emphasized that the EU has adopted a strict line, freezing 17 billion euros.
