The finance ministers of the European Union are expected to approve, during the ECOFIN meeting, Hungary's revised national recovery plan, which would allow the unlocking of 10 billion euros from post-pandemic funds, blocked due to concerns related to corruption and the rule of law.
The Hungarian Prime Minister, Peter Magyar, promoted the unlocking of these funds in the electoral campaign and reached an agreement with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Approved by the European Commission, the proposal requires the unanimous support of the 27 member states and for Hungary to meet all key milestones by the end of August. The new Hungarian government has revised the initial plan, including projects for railway, energy, and housing infrastructure. The Hungarian Minister of Finance, Andras Karman, emphasized the importance of this meeting for accessing EU funds.
