The Ukrainian Minister of Energy, Denis Şmigal, announced that the country has sufficient fuel reserves to meet consumption for over 20 days, in the context of a difficult energy situation caused by Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. The most affected areas are Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Odesa, where thousands of homes are without electricity and heating, in conditions of sub-zero temperatures. Şmigal emphasized that all power plants in Ukraine have been attacked by the enemy.

In this context, President Zelensky declared a state of emergency in the energy sector to address electricity supply issues. Şmigal also ordered emergency imports of electricity and emphasized the need to install a generation capacity of 2.2-2.7 GW by 2026 to meet consumption requirements.
