Donald Tusk, the leader of the Polish opposition, accused nationalist president Karol Nawrocki and right-wing parties of intending to push Poland towards leaving the European Union, a scenario he called "a catastrophe." In a post on X, Tusk emphasized that the far-right alliance, Confederation, and the majority of parliamentarians from the Law and Justice party (PiS) want to destabilize Poland's position in the EU. He linked the risk of a "Polexit" to external forces, including Russia and leaders of the European far-right, such as Viktor Orbán.

The warning came after Nawrocki rejected a law that would have allowed Poland to access European funds for defense, amplifying uncertainty regarding military spending, which could reach nearly 5% of GDP. Tusk pointed out that Nawrocki's veto could weaken Poland's position in the EU. Although polls show that support for leaving the EU is low, between 10% and 25% of Poles would support a withdrawal process, indicating a shift in public perception.
