Donald Trump, reaction after an uncomfortable question from a female journalist: “Shut up!”

U.S. President Donald Trump told a female journalist to “shut up” after she asked him whether he wanted his trips to be covered only by publications that support him. The incident took place Saturday morning, as Trump was leaving the White House.

Akayla Gardner, a correspondent for MS Now, asked him whether he wanted only outlets favorable to the administration to be included in the press pool. Trump accused the publication of broadcasting “fake news,” then, after the journalist asked him whether he did not want difficult questions, he replied: “Shut your mouth.”

The exchange was not broadcast live, after CNN had been excluded from the television crews designated to cover the presidential trip to Tennessee aboard Air Force One. The White House later published the footage on social media.

Trump has recently intensified his attacks on CNN and MS Now, accusing them of reporting unfavorably about him. During his first term, the president called the critical press “the enemy of the people” and frequently denounced “fake news.” Tensions increased after the press credentials for CNN, MS Now and Politico were revoked.
