United States President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is banning journalists from CNN, MSNOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the outlets of consistently broadcasting “fake news” about his administration and presidential activities.
Trump announced the decision on his social media platform, marking a new measure against the press. The restriction is particularly significant in the case of CNN, one of five television networks whose journalists rotate on the president’s trips and permanently monitor his activities.
Trump warned that other media organizations could also be targeted, arguing that the press should not be allowed to publish “fiction and lies” about the president, the administration or the United States.
The measure continues the administration’s conflict with several news organizations. In February 2025, Associated Press journalists were excluded from the Oval Office, Air Force One and other restricted events after the agency declined to adopt the name “Gulf of America” for the Gulf of Mexico. Since returning to the White House, Trump has also initiated legal action against outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the BBC.
