Fox News and three other American television networks withdraw from the group broadcasting Donald Trump’s activities, in solidarity with CNN

CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox News announced Monday that they would no longer take turns broadcasting footage from the activities of U.S. President Donald Trump. The decision was made in solidarity with CNN, which the White House barred from access after the network was accused of broadcasting “fake news.”

The five television networks that are part of the press pool said in a joint statement that the public should receive accurate and independent information about the government’s activities. The networks criticized any restriction on a media organization’s access because the administration disagrees with the way it reports.

The group films and distributes, on a rotating basis, footage and statements by the president throughout the day. CNN was scheduled to cover Trump’s activities this week, including while he is in New York for the U.N. General Assembly.

On Friday, the White House barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from access, and on Monday the three organizations announced that they would take the matter to court, invoking the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Trump has promised further measures against media outlets he accuses of spreading false information.
