The White House launches Trump TV, a nonstop video stream featuring the administration’s speeches and events, amid its conflict with the press

The White House launched on September 21 “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” a nonstop video feed available on the administration’s official website and on YouTube. The channel broadcasts speeches by President Donald Trump, statements by officials, and footage from administration events, amid the increasingly intense conflict between the presidency and several American media outlets.

The White House describes the new service as a real-time selection of the most important moments in the administration’s activities. The launch comes a few days after journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico were denied access and their credentials were revoked. Trump accused the publications of spreading “fake news,” while the newsrooms argue that the measure violates press freedom guaranteed by the First Amendment.

On September 21, the three organizations filed a lawsuit against the administration in a federal court. The White House says that access to the seat of the Presidency is a privilege, not a right.

The dispute also led to the suspension of the television component of the presidential press pool. ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC refused to replace CNN in the rotation for filming Trump’s events after the administration prevented the network from carrying out its duties. In the absence of an independent broadcast, the television networks aired footage provided by the White House, including a presidential speech without usable sound.
