MS NOW, CNN, and Politico are suing the Trump administration after the withdrawal of journalists' White House press credentials

MS NOW, CNN and Politico announced that they have sued the Donald Trump administration after their journalists’ press credentials for access to the White House were withdrawn. The news organizations argue that the measure was taken without notice, warning or due process and represents a violation of the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

The three companies filed a complaint with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. They are asking the court to prevent authorities from barring their employees from reporting from the White House and are seeking the immediate restoration of their credentials.

According to the plaintiffs, the administration restricted access because it was dissatisfied with the way certain events had been covered. The companies maintain that the government cannot decide what the press publishes and warn that the situation jeopardizes press freedom.

The action comes amid an increasing number of legal disputes between the Trump administration and the media. In 2018, a federal judge ordered the temporary restoration of the press credentials of Jim Acosta, a CNN correspondent, after the White House had barred him from accessing the premises.
