President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened "quite soon," but acknowledged that this process will not be easy. In an interview, Trump mentioned that other countries are offering help, without specifying which ones. According to POLITICO, the United Kingdom will host a new round of discussions next week with non-American allies to find ways to unblock the strait, where officials from 41 countries will meet for the first time since the announcement of a ceasefire with Iran. This round of negotiations will involve lower-level officials, unlike the first round, which took place on April 2, attended by foreign ministers. The United Kingdom expects the discussions to address economic and political measures, including sanctions and collaboration with the International Maritime Organization for the release of blocked ships. The blockage of the strait by Iran has caused severe disruptions in global energy supply, considering that approximately 20% of the world's oil and gas shipments pass through this area.
Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of support from NATO allies for securing the strait. The recent war between the US, Israel, and Iran has led to rising oil prices and instability in global markets. On Saturday, negotiations are scheduled in Islamabad for a possible peace agreement between Iranian and American delegations.
