The executive order signed by Trump aims to formalize the removal of US sanctions on Syria, a step towards stabilizing bilateral relations after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. While sanctions will be lifted to encourage investment and Syria's return to the international financial system, the US will maintain restrictions against former members of the Assad government. This decision coincides with increased Israeli interest in normalizing relations with Syria and Lebanon.
