The executive order signed by Trump aims to formalize the removal of US sanctions on Syria, a step towards stabilizing bilateral relations after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. While sanctions will be lifted to encourage investment and Syria's return to the international financial system, the US will maintain restrictions against former members of the Assad government.
