The President of the USA, Donald Trump, signed the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026 on Thursday, which authorizes record military spending of 901 billion dollars, 8 billion more than requested. The law includes 800 million dollars in aid for Ukraine, spread over two years, and measures to strengthen security in Europe, despite Trump's reservations about European allies' spending. The NDAA also limits the reduction of American forces in Europe to below 76,000 and prohibits relinquishing the title of Supreme Commander of NATO. The law was adopted as a compromise between the bills from the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the White House emphasized that Trump supports the included initiatives, which reflect his executive orders. Additionally, the State Department approved the sale of military equipment to NATO, valued at 136.1 million dollars.
