The President of the USA, Donald Trump, promised a strong response against ISIS following a deadly attack in Syria that resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter. The attack occurred in an unstable area, near the borders with Iraq and Jordan, during a mission to contact a key leader in the operations against ISIS. A lone attacker affiliated with ISIS opened fire, killing the soldiers before being neutralized by partner forces. Trump expressed condolences to the families of the victims and warned that there would be a "very serious response" in the event of future attacks. The Pentagon confirmed that the attack took place during a support mission for counter-terrorism, and the identities of the fallen soldiers have not been disclosed. The USA has been militarily involved in Syria since 2014 to prevent ISIS from establishing a caliphate.
