The American president Donald Trump sent an official letter inviting his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to become a founding member of the Peace Council for Gaza, according to an announcement made by Burhanettin Duran, the communication director of the Republic of Turkey.
Additionally, the Turkish foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, has been appointed to participate in the executive committee of the Council. Turkey, which has close ties with Hamas and supports the Palestinian cause, was involved in the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, signed in October in Egypt. Ankara has also expressed its willingness to contribute to the deployment of a monitoring force for this agreement and to the reconstruction efforts of the Palestinian territory affected by conflicts.
