U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Ukraine’s resumption of attacks on Russian oil refineries on Thursday, calling the decision “a disgrace” and again accusing his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, of making negotiations to end the war more difficult.
In an interview with Newsmax, Trump said that Ukraine has “many other targets” and argued that attacks on refineries contribute to rising global oil prices. “When you hit diesel refineries, you’re not doing the world a favor,” the U.S. president said.
His reaction came after Zelensky announced, in an interview with the Financial Times, that the truce on Ukrainian attacks against Russian oil infrastructure had been lifted. The statement contradicts Donald Trump’s announcement regarding an energy truce, which Moscow had not agreed to.
Trump intensified his criticism of the leader in Kyiv, saying that it is more difficult to work with Zelensky than with Vladimir Putin. “Zelensky is not the right person for us to reach an agreement with,” he said, accusing him of claiming that he wants peace but not acting accordingly.
