During the meeting in Beijing, American President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to ensure free access to energy products.
The White House announced that Xi Jinping expressed interest in purchasing more American oil, in order to reduce China's dependence on imports that pass through this strait. Although the White House described the meeting as 'good', it did not mention the issue of Taiwan, a sensitive topic in bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping also warned about the risks of a 'conflict' between the two countries, in the event that the United States does not manage the Taiwan situation correctly. China emphasized its opposition to the 'militarization' of the Strait of Hormuz and called for ensuring free access through this essential route for its oil imports.
