U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron will meet Monday afternoon in New York on the sidelines of the annual session of the UN General Assembly. The meeting is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. local time, or 9:35 p.m. GMT, according to the schedule published by the White House.
Shortly beforehand, Trump will meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Party and a vocal critic of the U.S. administration.
Macron will arrive in New York from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, following a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The two defended the sovereignty of Canada and France amid the territorial claims made by Trump. The U.S. president has repeatedly threatened to annex Canada and recently published a map showing the region under the United States flag.
During his visit, Macron will also meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Élysée Palace is also seeking to organize talks with Middle Eastern leaders, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
On Tuesday, in his address to the UN General Assembly, Macron will advocate for “effective multilateralism” based on coalitions capable of achieving concrete results. The French presidency believes that the effectiveness of multilateral action is being undermined by the gradual disengagement of the leaders of the five permanent members of the Security Council.
