Trump and Macron held a “very constructive” discussion about Ukraine and security in the Red Sea in New York, on the sidelines of the UN summit

US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, met on Monday in New York, on the sidelines of the UN’s annual summit, to discuss the situation in the Red Sea and the war in Ukraine. The meeting lasted approximately 30 minutes and was described by the French leader as “very constructive.”

According to Emmanuel Macron, the two analyzed ways to secure oil facilities in the Red Sea and the need for Ukraine to receive more interceptor missiles, more quickly. The French president emphasized that the two conflicts affect international peace and security, as well as the purchasing power of the French people.

Before the meeting, Macron had announced that he would try to convince Trump to maintain support for Ukraine and intensify pressure on Russia. Europeans continue to call for the full involvement of the United States in negotiations and security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire.

The discussions are taking place after several rounds of negotiations without concrete progress. US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff recently visited Kyiv to revive mediation efforts, while Russia has intensified its air attacks on Ukraine.

Macron also advocated for a peace solution in the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for calming fuel markets.
