The Vatican is celebrating 400 years since the consecration of St. Peter's Basilica with a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience of visitors. Among these are the expansion of access to the impressive terrace of the basilica and the modernization of the snack bar, where visitors can enjoy drinks under Michelangelo's iconic dome.
The authorities have announced an online reservation system that will significantly reduce the often long queues for entry. Additionally, the new facilities come with an online booking system to reduce waiting times, simultaneous translation of services into up to 60 languages, and a permanent exhibition about the history of the basilica. These initiatives are sponsored by the Italian energy giant ENI and commemorate the consecration in 1626 by Pope Urban VIII.
