The administration of President Donald Trump will require citizens from 50 countries to submit a $15,000 bond to obtain entry visas to the U.S., according to a State Department official. This measure, which will take effect on April 2, aims to reduce the number of visitors who overstay their duration of stay.
New countries, including Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Tunisia, have been added to the list of 38 states already affected, most of which are from Africa. Bonds will be returned to those who comply with the terms of the visa. Trump's strict immigration policies, including travel bans and social media monitoring, have been criticized by human rights groups, which argue that they undermine due process and freedom of expression. U.S. officials state that these measures are necessary to improve domestic security.
