The Trump administration is pressuring to print a $250 bill featuring the likeness of President Donald Trump, which would be a first for a living person in 150 years. According to The Washington Post, the project is part of a series of initiatives aimed at imposing Trump's mark on the symbols of the United States, generating accusations of a personality cult. Former and current employees of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) have reported orders coming from Treasury officials, including Treasurer Brandon Beach.
Artist Iain Alexander confirmed that Trump approved proposals that include elements of the American flag. According to the law, the appearance of a living person on a banknote has been prohibited since 1866. A bill for this endeavor was presented to Congress in 2025 but remained ineffective. BEP Director Patricia Solimene opposed the initiative, raising legal issues, but was dismissed in April. She mentioned that the responsibility stops here, in the context of having been forced to authorize Trump's signature on future $100 bills.
